Our Research

This research was led by Dr Sylwia Ciuk, who was supported by Torie Slaughter, a doctoral researcher, and Dr Kay Galpin, a research associate, at Oxford Brookes University. The study was funded by the British Academy. It set out to understand how recent graduates navigate the challenges and opportunities of hybrid working and how employers can support them in this process.

The study is based on in-depth interviews and rich visual storytelling with 40 early career hybrid workers. Participants were UK and international graduates working across a wide range of sectors and roles, such as retail, banking, advertising, healthcare and engineering.

The sample was purposefully designed to capture diverse perspectives. We interviewed participants from a range of professional and organisational backgrounds, making sure that we also captured views from ethnic minorities, neurodivergent employees, those with long-term health conditions as well as young employees with caring responsibilities.

The result is a body of evidence that is both rich and rigorous. The resources shared on this open hub were carefully designed based on this evidence and further informed by extensive desk research.
